Week 2: Quarantine Chronicles

Week 2: Quarantine Chronicles

Yes, we're calling it "quarantine" now.

And Quarantine Chronicles? It just has such a nice ring to it...

I love my family. Love them. To pieces.

And some days I think we're literally being hammered INTO pieces by each other.

God has a strange way of working upon us, doesn't He? He often brings you down to your knees in order to lift you up in His arms. And whenever that happens, it's totally worth it.

Weekly Journal:

Sunday: home church. We all sat on the couch and watched church from the comfort of our home. Then played outside. Frostbit the girl child's cheeks. #momfail

Monday: we homeschooled. We did a devotional, we watched some instructional YouTube videos. I planned to make English Muffins with my 6yo son. We went outside and shoveled the deck (again) while my husband blew the new foot of snow off the driveway (not that we're going anywhere anytime soon).

Tuesday: no homeschool. Kids slept in until 8:00 (late for both of them). Hubby worked during nap time and after kids went to bed and spent the rest of the day entertaining the munchkins. Oh wait, we did do some flashcards on subtraction and telling time. Kids built a fort. Then fought over it. Email from 6yo's teacher that took 1 hour to respond to due to constant interruptions. Made English muffin sponge tonight.

Wednesday: Much bad attitudes about homeschooling today. Only did a little bit of math, handwriting, and letters, but it was like pulling multiple teeth. Attempted to join the virtual karate class only to find our internet does not like live TV feeds. Made our English muffins instead. #momwin #homeschoolinglikeapro

Thursday: Is it only Thursday? Oh wait, days don't matter anymore. They're all the same. We did a bit of working on handwriting, my son read five long pages of a book to me, we went on a walk, played Mousetrap, grilled salmon and hamburgers (don't judge) for dinner, and chilled out. Impulsively signed up for a weekend virtual writers' retreat.

Friday: Spent a lot of time on Zoom today for a virtual writing retreat. My internet held it together (for the most part), but it was tough to stay focused when the kids were crazy. I did get some motivation to work a bit more. My hubby was a champ watching the kids. No real school happening yet.

Saturday: Woo-hoo! It’s the weekend! Oh…wait… Nope, sorry, there are no weekends anymore. Instead, another day of a virtual writers' retreat. It's nice to chat with other authors, even though I'm on the opposite side of the country (or globe) than them. I did get an email from my son's teacher about school. We're starting our official homeschooling on Monday. I don't know who is more scared: me or him.

All in all, it's been a pretty quiet week for me, but I'm determined to chip away at book 3. I've got a decent start with my Aladdin character, with 5792 words from his POV right now. I'm not revealing his name yet, because I'm really just trying it out right now. (Same with the princess' name.)

A side-note thought on remakes.

As I write this on Saturday night, I just tried and failed to get through the live-action Aladdin remake. (What did they do to Aladdin?!) Gosh. It's so...Ugh. Maybe if I can make it through, I'll give a movie review on it or something, but I gave it about 20 minutes, and I just couldn't continue. Which really makes me a little sad. But I suppose that's what happens when you remake things, huh? There's a gamble. Some people will love it, others will hate it. Some will think you've improved the original and others will hate that you even tried.

I certainly hope my retelling will be the former, one that adds to the plentiful myths of Aladdin. Regardless, I'm starting to enjoy this retelling and get more emotionally involved in it, and that feels like a huge hurdle overcome right now, if I'm completely honest. So if you're looking for me, I'll be typing away on my computer, desperately adding word after word to Canens Chronicles book 3 (title to be decided).

Until next time…

Kelsie
